  4. Country Description:  Liechtenstein is a stable, democratically-run
  5. constitutional monarchy with a modern economy.  Tourist facilities are
  6. widely available.
  7.  
  8. Entry Requirements:  A passport is required.  A visa is not required for
  9. tourist or business stays up to three months.  For further information
  10. concerning entry requirements for Liechtenstein, travelers can contact the
  11. Embassy of Switzerland at 2900 Cathedral Avenue N.W., Washington D.C. 20008,
  12. tel (202) 745-7900, or the nearest Swiss Consulate General in Atlanta, San
  13. Francisco, Houston, Chicago, Los Angeles, or New York.

  15. Medical Facilities:  Good medical care is available. Doctors and hospitals
  16. often expect immediate cash payment for health services.  U.S. medical
  17. insurance is not always valid outside the United States.  Travelers have
  18. found that in some cases, supplemental medical insurance with specific
  19. overseas coverage has proved to be useful.  Further information on health
  20. matters can be obtained from the Centers for Disease Control's international
  21. travelers hotline at (404) 332-4559.

  23. Crime Information:  Liechtenstein has a low crime rate.  The loss or theft
  24. abroad of a U.S. passport should be reported immediately to the local police
  25. and the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate.  U.S. citizens can refer to the
  26. Department of State's pamphlet "A Safe Trip Abroad" for ways to promote a
  27. more trouble-free journey.  The pamphlet is available from the
  28. Superintendent of Documents, U.S. Government Printing Office, Washington
  29. D.C. 20402.

  31. Drug Penalties:  U.S. citizens are subject to the laws of the country in
  32. which they are traveling.  In Liechtenstein, the penalties for possession,
  33. use, or dealing in illegal drugs are strict, and convicted offenders can
  34. expect jail sentences and fines.

  36. Registration:  U.S. citizens who register at the U.S. Consulate General in
  37. Zurich at Zollikerstrasse 141, 8008 Zurich, telephone (41-1) 422-25-66 can
  38. obtain updated information on travel and security in Liechtenstein.
